The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has been placed on probation by the international accreditation group, the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care-International, for serious problems in caring for animals, including one chimpanzee who underwent 10 liver needle biopsy attempts by a researcher (more than three is considered too many by the CDC.)
